What are flower essences?
Flower essences have been used for thousands of years to support healing—from the Australian Aboriginals and Ancient Egyptians to European traditions and the re-emergence of their use in the 1930s with Dr Edward Bach in the UK.
They are considered a form of vibrational medicine, using the energetic imprint of flowers to help shift emotional and mental patterns. They support greater self-awareness, ease transitions, and help release blockages that may show up as physical, emotional, or spiritual symptoms.
Why flowers?
Flowers hold the highest vibration of any part of the plant. As the final and most expressive stage of a plant’s growth, they carry the qualities, consciousness, and ancient wisdom of the Earth. Australia is home to the oldest flowering plants on the planet—when you work with these essences, you’re also connecting with the deep wisdom of this land.
There are 70 Australian Bush Flower Essences, each with their own specific qualities and energy.
How do they work?
Everything is energy. Each of us vibrates at different frequencies depending on our emotional, mental, physical, or spiritual state. When we become stuck in limiting thoughts or patterns, our energy can become dense or rigid, which can eventually affect our wellbeing.
Introducing a flower essence—a pure, high-vibrational imprint—can help shift these stuck patterns by lifting our frequency. Like tuning forks, they gently bring our energy back into alignment.
What are they used for?
Flower essences work on all levels of being—physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.
They can support:
Stress, shock, or trauma
Fertility, birth, and hormonal balance
Clarity, focus, and decision-making
Emotional healing and transitions
Releasing limiting beliefs or patterns
Strengthening intuition and spiritual connection
For example: Paw Paw may support digestion on a physical level, but also help you process information (mental/emotional) and strengthen your connection to intuition (spiritual).
Are they safe?
Yes. Flower essences are safe for everyone—including children, animals, pregnant women, and people undergoing medical treatment. There are no contraindications with medications or therapies. Even your houseplants may benefit!
They’re particularly effective for children and animals, who are naturally attuned to subtle energies.
How do you use essences?
The most common way is to take them internally—7 drops under the tongue or in a drink, morning and night. In acute situations, you can take them every 30 minutes until you feel more balanced.
Other ways to use them:
Apply to pulse points, chakras, or the crown of the head
Add to sprays for your space
Use during healing sessions (with cards, dowsing, or laid on the body)
Mix into creams or oils for topical use
Each remedy is held in a water/brandy base to preserve the vibration. If taken as recommended, a 25ml bottle will last around 2 weeks, and a 50ml about 4 weeks. You cannot overdose.
