As some of you may know I am at the end of my studies to become a Feng Shui consultant…
I am studying with an amazing college… I can’t really recommend them enough… down to earth, open and aware, and the founder Nicole Bijlsma, is forging her way ahead in the new area of Building Biology. In fact she has created the only accredited Building Biology course in Australia and is at the forefront of bringing the awareness of sick building syndrome to the general public….
Within my Feng Shui course I also complete a subject called Modern Feng Shui, which is mainly an intro subject into Building Biology. In this subject we delve into household health hazards that are saturating our homes, such as increased chemicals and EMF’s (electromagnetic fields).
For sometime now… well for many years, I have delved into natural approaches to keeping our home clean with earth friendly products (though slip at times when it comes to hair dyes and the occasional bleach). I have also been aware of the EMF impact on our health for a while in regards to over use of mobile phones, electricity boxes on the wall where people sleep being a major hazard and have adamantly not used wireless internet for our connection to the big wide world of cyber space… (until recently when I received an upgrade of my router, though thankfully I have a button to turn the wireless off and only use cable.)
I am so surprised at how people have adopted wireless without any thought about what it is doing and how the signal move around our homes. Being an energy worker I am quite aware of and will question ‘energy’… in lots of different forms including wireless.
Wireless is a scary concept in my view… purely for the fact that you can’t see it, therefore people aren’t questioning it and how it impacts on our health. As I sit and write this article in this clinic I have wi-fi bands of information bouncing constantly around the walls until it finds the correct signal or where it has to go. WiFi loves bouncing… it doesn’t just go in a straight line… it will hit a wall bounce of it and keeps doing it until it gets to where it needs to go…
And because this is a new form of EMF we will not know the full impact that this technology will have on our health in the years to come.
According to my teacher Nicole Bijlsma in her book, Healthy home, Healthy family(page95) says that ‘This technology uses a wireless local area network (WLAN) which emits pulsed microwave radiation on a continual basis‘ and it has also been recorded that the symptoms listed below have been experienced in people being exposed to these EMF’s
- ‘Headaches and migraines
- Learning, concentration and behavioural problems
- Anxiety and depression
- Muscle and joint pains and spasms
- Ringing in the ears and hearing loss
- Palpitations, high blood pressure, arrhythmias and shortness of breath
- Motor neurone disease
- There is increasing evidence to suggest an increased risk of specific type of brain tumour – namely glimas, meningiomas, acoustic neuromas and parotid gland tumours.’
And that is the reason why I have my concerns about having wireless in my own home.
Today I took my 4.5yr old to his 1st transition day at primary school and as he played in another class room with the other kids, I sat in the hall and listened to his teachers speak about how important certain things are for our children’s education, which was great and helpful. The teachers in this primary school seem passionate and really concerned for our childrens education and that is why my partner and I was so excited for our eldest to go to this particular school.
They were also very very proud to announce that the school with be going wireless next year and how this will benefit the children and how they can access the internet easily from the new iPads they had just purchased and the 16 more that will be introduced soon.
Now don’t get me wrong… I am all for technology and the way the kids are learning today has dramatically changed since I was a kid, and we also use an iPad at home and I find it a very amazing tool, not only for myself but as a learning tool for my children. Though when my kids do use an iPad, I always ensure that the aeroplane mode is selected in order for the SIM card to be shut down and not transmit a continuous signal.
Though now I have concerns that my child will be going into a school where he will be in an environment where wireless being continuously pulsed.
MMMmmmm it was on the tip of my tongue to speak up and ask whether they had considered the health implications of this technology they will be installing, but there was no room for questions and to tell you the truth I don’t think that they would even be aware that there are any health risks.
Most people don’t… I would like to ask you though…. putting all costs aside… ‘would you allow your child to use a mobile phone continuously for 6 hours every day, 5 days a week? Knowing that the phone won’t be placed against their head but would be in their immediate vacinity?…. And if you wouldn’t then why not? And if you would.. then why would you feel that this is ok?
Also if I did question the teachers, I didn’t have enough information to provide if any questions were thrown back at me… so I will be gathering my resources and writing an email… and hopefully planting a seed for them to investigate further.
Our children’s body’s absorb or are affected by EMF’s much more than adult’s… I am no doctor or scientist but this illustration is alarming to me and although the children in schools with wireless technology do not have a mobile to their ear, they are still exposed to these radiowaves being pulsed constantly over long periods of time.
‘Children who use mobile phones are likely to experience memory problems, decline of attention, diminished learning and cognitive abilities, increased irritability and sleep problems’ (Russian National Committee on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection, 2008)
There have been several schools in Europe who have completely banned wireless technology due to health concerns!
Ok so this is just a little bit of info from a huge resource that is out there for people who want to learn a bit more about EMF’s and the impact of our wireless technology has on our health…
I will be researching more and gathering information to send out to the school… I hate to be the parent who people roll their eyes at but I am also the the sort of person who can’t keep my mouth shut knowing that there are research and studies telling us that this technology is not healthy.
Fingers crossed and I will let you know how I go when I approach the school…
