The energy for October starts on 8th at 3:24pm as we move into the Metal Dog until the 7th November.
One of the main themes of this month is the ability to manifest your desires through hard work and determination.
The Dog is an Earth element and has the ability to support you to manifest whatever it is you wish to do. Though, you also have to be careful of what you wish for. As long as your desires reflect your authentic self and dreams, it may not be as good as you thought once you get it.
Being an Earth element, there’s also an opportunity of collaboration and community building, though this could be on shaky ground as most of this stability is given over to Geng, the Metal sitting on top of the Dog for this October. And we’ll discuss this further in this article.
The Earth element usually brings a sense of stability, groundedness and cohesion to any circumstance you are experiencing, though this month the Earth is weakened for the need to work hard. It may be a month of burn out and physical exhaustion trying too hard to meet your goals. So a word of warning here is to ensure you are pacing yourself and taking breaks. You’re body may need to rest and recover to ensure you have the energy resources to forge ahead.
The Dog is also considered a storage which for some people who’s Earth is favourable, is a time to accumulate money and physical items. You may see yourself making big purchases or creating wealth. If Earth is not your favourable element (this is calculated through your Bazi or Chinese Astrology natal chart) then October may be a good month to get your finances sorted and organised. Also ensure you aren’t making purchases on frivolous items.
During October there may become a time where you wish to pull away from the crowds and isolate yourself, this is the complete opposite of Geng Metal and the regular Earth qualities. But Dog is also considered the Star of the Arts or Loneliness Star where those with specific charts retreat to develop their work further. They cant do this if they are surrounded by others. For some it may mean diving deep into their craft and forging a future and for others it may mean a sense of not belonging to any one demographic and feeling alone. Just know that this will lift and is just another cycle and flow of elements. You will be right where you need to be.
The Dog is a transitional branch and with all the change you have been planning and mulling over, over the past few months, will now see you taking action of these changes. This will bring you to the realisation that you have grown in your awareness and can see the benefits of the new decisions you’ve made.
Geng, the Yang Metal element of the heavenly stem (top character) is the strong element this month as Dog nourishes and nurtures the Metal.
Geng (Yang Metal) can be likened to a mighty sword. It’s strong, ready to fight for what is right and wants to win any challenge. Geng is altruistic in nature and you may find you’re pulled to help others, join a community group or dive into service. You may come to the conclusion that you can’t achieve any success without hard work despite the ‘work smart, not hard’ message being told. Though when you have a dream, a drive and a purpose, you find the hard work rewarding and achievable despite your time and physical work.
This month your focus and discipline will increase and you will have such a fire in your belly you can find yourself knee deep in someone else battles. Be sure to create healthy boundaries as not all fights are worth your time. Though Geng knows this and puts a lot of importance on discernment, he can also become rash and impulsive. The best course of action this month is strategy and planning. Step by step and methodically working through the stages will help create success.
It will also be interesting to see what occurs in Russia as Geng Dog could relate to clashes over borders and boundaries. Let’s hope that the victory will be on the Earth’s qualities of peace and cohesion of this month.
Geng’s main theme is discernment, as a sword it can cut through any crap and delusion to see the truth of the matter. This also means that you may be put in a situation where you will see what is actually occurring that has been hidden for sometime. This can be enhanced by decluttering your space, eliminating the junk food out of your diet or being careful what information you consume. The more you clear, the more clear you become. October (Spring here in the southern Hemisphere) is the perfect time to Spring clean!
Healthy October
As the Metal element is so strong in October it does point to Lung and Large intestine imbalances. Respiratory illnesses are back on the watch list again, so ensuring your immune system is strong and you are getting a lot of fresh air will help strengthen your own Metal element.
Metal also governs your skin as it’s considered the second Lung which is a signal for you to increase your protection. Your skin is the boundary between you and the outside world and form a protective layer for your most vital physical part of yourself. This means that you may need to take extra care of your skin, go in and have a skin check but also ensure that your emotional self has healthy boundaries. This will ensure you are making your decisions without being influenced by those external to you.
The Earth element of the Dog may see unsettledness of your digestion and you may feel the urge to return to eating food that nurtures your body. The Earth element also governs your whole physical self, so it also recommended to ensure you are keeping the whole body in check. Adding movement, stretching and exercise is also recommended this month..

The monthly Flying Stars
This month we are only going to focus on one area of the Bagua and the monthly Flying Stars and that’s because all but one are weak this month, pointing us directly towards clashes with authority.
In the month of October we may see strong themes of authority, power and strength which will be controlled by those in power and the patriarch. The energy leans towards domination and taking control over groups and populations; this can be seen on a global scale, in your place of work, the media and in the home.
But what counterbalances this theme of control and power, is your inner guidance and sense of autonomy. This is your way through. It’s time to use the sword that Geng has provided this month and fight for your independence and release the control from the powers that be. Your own internal governance may be pushed to the limits and what ever is not authentic to you will drop away or you will be forced to leave it behind. This is a big theme that is coming to a head in the next 2 years as we move into a new 20 year cycle, and this month of October seems to provide us a glimpse into what’s to come.
We also see arguments, disputes and clashes in the central palace, though weak in it’s energy, its still at the centre of the issues. Standing strong, remaining centred and breathing into your own innate power is a must.
Qi Men Dun Jai for October
I’m only in my infancy with this modality as it’s the most complicated of all Chinese Metaphysics but let’s explore…
You may be personally mulling over disagreements and even processing a broken heart. And you may find yourself in the middle of a conflict and a division of loyalties. This can draw you into a time of solitude and meditation. You may also find there’s a stagnation with friendships where you feel like you are stuck in a holding pattern. Allow this time to be as it is, and once the energy of October has shifted, you may sense the relief.
You may feel like there’s some confusion or delusion in regards to exactly where you feel you should be, this may see you changing direction or flipping from one thing to another. And so you start working hard because being tough and a hard task master is driving your thoughts.
The situation calls for you to stay calm and in control as there’s no need to panic. When things don’t seem to go according to plan it can be easy to feel anxious and stressed, but never fear a solution is sure to present itself.
The month of October is not perfect for finances, but your luck will be enhanced if you focus on building on your teaching skills, study and vocations like public speaking. Your voice is heard this month and any endeavours of presentations or workshops will help increase your success in business or career.
The Qi is cautioning you to take care of your health and is providing you with a heads up to make sure you are supporting yourself in this area.
And there is a sense of mystery and secrecy this month and it may be a good time to keep your cards close to your chest. You don’t have to disclose everything to everyone, some things are best kept to yourself until you are ready to reveal.
Auspicious Days of October
Through each month there are certain days and hours that are particularly auspicious.
The dates below are general and doesn’t apply for every situation. For example, 9th October may be auspicious to move house, though it’s not auspicious for a wedding. It also doesn’t take into account your personal natal chart energy either e.g, 7th August is not auspicious for people with a Monkey in their charts, as it’s known as a clash day.
But, I thought I would share some dates in case you wish to experiment with date selection. Please message me if you would like more personalised auspicious date selection for launching courses, getting married, moving house etc.
- October 17th (though not good for wealth, signing contracts, business trading, financial decisions) 20th, 24th, 25th
- November 1st, 5th
Remember to use discernment and stand in your power in October!
