Day #161 (Detox)
hehe I know…. didn’t have an electric blanket to take a photo of so next best thing…. a blanket and an electrical cord!
It’s winter here at the moment in the Southern Hemisphere and unfortunately bloody cold too!
But I am begging you… DON’T pull on your electric blanket!
Uh now… no! Unplug it, take it off and put it away, better still… recycle or renew (somehow).
Electric blankets are one of the most unhealthy appliances you could have in your home. They emit anywhere between 5mG to 20mG of magnetic radiation (EMF) which when in use can penetrate into your body up to 18cm!
And not only that… but for up to 7 or 8 hours depending on your sleep patterns and how you use your electric blanket.
Long term exposure like this to EMF’s are linked to childhood leukaemia, breast cancer and specific brain cancers, lowers your immune system, increases inflammation of the body and stress and much more.
In fact according to Dr Mercola of mercola.com mentions in his article Is Your Electric Blanket Safe?
‘…if you use an electric blanket during early pregnancy, you may increase the risk of miscarriage. Studies indicate that women who used an electric blanket around the time of conception and during early pregnancy were nearly twice as likely to have a miscarriage than women who did not.’
And according to Nicole Bijlsma of buildingbiology.com EMF’s are still present even if you have turned it off. The plug needs to be taken out of the wall for it not to emit any EMF’s.
My suggestion to keep you warm at night is to…
- Add more clothes especially thermal underwear
- extra blankets
- flannelette sheets
- hot water bottle
- other forms of safe heating like oil heaters, AC units or central heating.
- gain a sleeping companion and warm each other up. (optional)
But please no electric blankets x
