Day #16 [Detox]
This little number here is one of the quickest and easiest way to reduce chemicals in your home.
What is it?
The microfibre cloth!
These are awesome and proves that new technology just gets better and better.
What is so special about these cloths is that the fibres have been split.
This split creates a star shape – if you look at the fibre in a cross-section. So when you use a microfibre cloth to wipe a surface the star shape captures the dirt and bacteria.
Why is that so important to have star shape fibred cloth?
Because they have the ability to lift 99% of the bacteria and dirt from a surface without the use of chemicals!
That is amazing!!
This alone will answer why you need to ditch your surface sprays… but I am going to hammer it home a little here.
When you spray chemicals onto the surface to clean, the chemicals actually remain on the surface even after being wiped (by whatever cloth your have) and this will contribute to a build up of chemicals within your home or business. And if you use these sprays on a daily basis the chemical load will compound.
There are some really serious chemicals in cleaning sprays.
Most multi-purpose cleaners contain chemicals which can suppress the immune system and cause respiratory problems, some may also contain formaldehyde which is a possible carcinogen.
Reducing the chemicals and commercial products for cleaning will ultimately assist in lessening the chemical load in your home and business AND your body. As you will absorb these chemicals via your skin and lungs. Ditching commercial sprays will not only lessen the impact on your health but your wallet too! Chemical sprays are expensive and unnecessary!
Microfibre cloths, on the other hand, are really easy to purchase and you can usually find them in your local supermarket.
By using a damp Microfibre cloth alone to clean your surfaces you can clean 99% of the bacteria without having to use anything else!
Running them under warm water in between wipes (heat) releases the bacteria and dirt from the star shape fibres making it safe and effective to continue your cleaning.
Though if you really feel like you need to use ‘something’ whilst cleaning, you can use Eucalyptus, Lemon or Tea Tree oil on your microfibre cloth to kill any extra germs you may not have wiped off (1%??). A beautiful combination and non toxic too!
And the bonus is that they are also machine washable and can be reused many times.
As with most things there will be good and bad quality so you may need to test some out before you find one that works well for you.
But best of all; these great cloths are easily accessible and are one of the quickest way to clean and reduce chemicals in your home.
It’s a Win/Win!
They also make microfibre cloths specifically for cleaning floors, windows, cars and more.
